The Outdoor Race World Tour has been designed to provide an avenue for teams to become professional in the sport of adventure racing. With 10 of the world’s best adventure races on their schedule, the Happy Mutant is honored to produce the only stop in the US.
The unique opportunities that Las Vegas presents in location and lifestyle combined with the rugged outdoors that live only miles away from the Strip will make this an event that you will be talking about for years.
ORWT Racers will be transported from our host hotel to a remote start location for Stage 1. Along the way the traditional disciplines of paddling, biking, hiking/running, and canyoneering will be found. The paddle sections will take place on the Colorado River and will include sections down river and against the current. The stark ruggedness of the Mojave Desert will serve as the backdrop for mountain biking, trekking and orienteering segments. We highly suggest a mountain bike for the race as we will be using historic trade routes, OHV trails, and routes that see minimal traffic.
Due to the extreme heat that may occur in the region during this time of year, there will be several on-course oasis where shade and water will be accessible to the competitors. For racer safety, there may be “heat zones” implemented.
Once all teams have completed Stage 1, they will be transported back to the Linq in Las Vegas to prepare for the Stage 2 Prologue on Saturday night. Stage 2 will featured a staggered start based on the prologue finish time of each team.
Stage 2 features many of the sights and sounds that have made Las Vegas famous. Imagine taking a week’s worth of tourist destinations, locations and activities…and then cramming them into a 30-hour time frame! In addition to the paddle, bike, hike modes of transportation teams will use non-traditional methods to complete the course. There will be a dune buggy orienteering section, zip-lining, stair climbing, bull riding (mechanical that is!), fast cars, heavy machinery and public transportation to manage.
Included in the ORWT entry fee: transfer from Las Vegas to Stage 1 and back, pre-race social, in-race activities, post-race awards party, race bib, canoe/paddle/pfd rental (personal gear can be used), transportation of bikes and gear during the event, and more fun than should be legal in 38 States.
Teams will be responsible to their transportation to and from Las Vegas and accommodations during the event. The Linq Hotel and Casino will serve as the host hotel and race head quarters. Make sure to let them know you are coming for this event when you make your reservation to take advantage of the discounted rate. Comped rooms are available on a first entered, first served basis and are subject to availability. Contact hmarseries@thehappymutant.com for information on rooms.
Bikes will be transported in bike boxes or bags per ARWS guidelines.
4-person teams will have two (2) gear boxes. 2-person teams will have one (1) gear box. Size per ARWS guidelines.
